Moving to Class 11 from a CBSE or ICSE school
For parents of Class 10 students at CBSE, ICSE and international schools in Nashik and North Maharashtra who are planning 11th Science with JEE or NEET.
What stays the same
- NCERT. JEE Main and NEET are built on the NCERT syllabus. A student who has studied from NCERT books in Class 9 and 10 is already on familiar ground. ICSE students also move comfortably, since their Science and Maths are at least as deep.
- English. Classes are taught in English, with a word of Hindi or Marathi where it helps someone understand faster.
- Your board, if you want it. Class 11 and 12 are available in ISC, HSC and CBSE, so a CBSE student can stay with CBSE and an ICSE student can continue with ISC.
- School environment. Your child studies on the Ashoka campus, which runs ICSE, ISC and Cambridge programmes. The surroundings, discipline and classmates will feel familiar.
What changes
- The pace. JEE and NEET move faster than any Class 10 board syllabus. The first few weeks of Class 11 are used to bring every student, whichever board they came from, to the same starting line.
- The kind of question. Board exams reward complete, well-written answers. Entrance exams reward speed, accuracy and the ability to combine ideas. The timetable gives time to practise both.
- MHT‑CET. Maharashtra's CET follows the State Board syllabus. The overlap with NCERT is large, and the few extra topics are covered in class.
Frequently asked questions
Will my child be behind State Board students in 11th?
No. Class 11 starts fresh for everyone, and NCERT is the base for JEE and NEET. CBSE and ICSE students usually settle in within the first month.
Which board will my child write in Class 12?
Three boards are available for Class 11 and 12 on the campus: ISC (Indian School Certificate), HSC (Maharashtra State Board) and CBSE. Our counsellors will help you choose the one that suits your child.
Should we consider a dummy school instead?
Some families look at enrolling in a school only on paper so the child can attend coaching all day. Boards are strict about attendance, and the child loses a normal school life. Here, college and coaching share one campus and one timetable, so students get the full coaching hours without that risk.
What about Olympiads and extra-curriculars?
The daily routine includes an hour of sports and recreation. Students with Olympiad interest get guidance from the faculty.
